Radios & Television Tubes

Muscovite Mica of medium grade quality (Stained 'A' , Stained 1st and Stained 'B') is used as spacers in radio and TV vacuum tubes. These spacers hold the tube spacers in position, equidistant and insulated from each other. Most receiving tubes contain two to four Mica pieces, two pieces are used for upper and lower supports or bridges and the other two are used for as clips or spacers.

Transmitting tubes require the use of high quality Mica because very high heat is dissipated under the vacuum tube operating conditions, which would cause a loss of water crystallization under the vacuum conditions.

Mica is well suited for this use because of its electrical, mechanical and chemical properties. Mica can be blanked into intricate patterns with close tolerance. The resiliency of Mica permits tubes to withstand vibration and shock during operation. The chemical stability of Mica also prevents gassing in the operating environment of electronic tubes.
