Motor & Generator Armature Insulation

Mica insulation is a very important part in the construction of armatures for electric motors and generators.The armature is the heart of motors and generators and it would be difficult to produce quality armatures without the use of Mica as an insulator. Mica insulation for armatures is supplied in two forms, one is lower quality (Heavily Stained and Densely Stained and Spotted) Sheet Mica and the other is Built Up Mica.Mica Sheet is used as an insulator between the outside of the armature and the steel bands that encircle it. Mica insulation has made it possible for generators to operate at high temperatures and at 6000 volts and above.Electric utility generating units that produce current at higher voltages and operate at higher temperatures could not do so without the use of Mica as an insulator. The generators being used in the large power stations generating world's electric power require large armatures and these large armatures have developed a heavy demand for large armature insulation and this insulation is being made from Built Up Mica.The Built Up Mica is being used for coils, for slots in which the coils rest and for pads and collars at the end of the armatures.
